This weekend, I had the chance to take my first class at the Peloton Studio in NYC with one of my favorite instructors, Alex. It’s a little embarrassing to admit that I was a bit star-struck and giddy with excitement, but there it is.
At MooShim we talk often of the importance of the shared energy between teacher and students. That concept was validated a thousand times over when I walked into that room. It didn’t matter that it had taken me 2 1/2 hours to get there, or that I wasn’t sure how well I would do on the leaderboard. All that mattered in that moment was the energy, encouragement and positivity I felt from the others in the class and from Alex. At one point, a hint of doubt creeped in but I just kept pushing in spite of it. Somehow, at that very moment, I heard Alex say “I like this right there. Excellent!” I looked up and he was pointing right at me!!!
Think this has nothing to do with Tae Kwon Do? Think again! I relate almost everything in my life back to Tae Kwon Do somehow. This moment that I described embodies the kind of energy I love to feel and try my best to create in the dojang. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to experience it in a different way so I can be reminded of the great possibility that is always in front of me. I will take this and bring it with me to the dojang!
